Saturn Dasha (Shani Mahadasha) lasts 19 years — the longest of all planetary periods. It is both the most feared and most transformative Dasha in Vedic astrology.
What happens during Saturn Dasha?
Saturn is the planet of karma, discipline, delays and hard work. During its Dasha, you are asked to build — slowly, methodically, without shortcuts. Careers restructure. Relationships that lack real foundation break. Responsibilities increase. Life slows down.
This can feel like punishment. It is actually preparation.
The three phases of Saturn Dasha
Years 1–6 (Shani-Shani): Heaviest period. Old structures collapse. Financial pressure common. Health may need attention. This is Saturn clearing what no longer serves you.
Years 7–13 (Sub-dashas of Mercury, Ketu, Venus): Gradual stabilisation. Efforts begin to show results. Discipline builds real foundations.
Years 14–19 (Sub-dashas of Sun, Moon, Mars): Harvest period. Everything you built with integrity during the hard years begins to pay off. Significant achievements arrive.
How to navigate Saturn Dasha
✦ Work hard without expecting instant results
✦ Serve others — Saturn rewards selfless service
✦ Saturday fasting and lighting sesame oil lamp
✦ Recite Shani Chalisa or the Shani Beej Mantra
✦ Donate black sesame seeds, mustard oil, iron
Saturn does not punish. Saturn reveals. Those who work with Saturn's energy during this period often emerge with the most enduring success of their lives.
